6-day itinerary to prove Kenya needs to be your next destination

White water rafting with Savage Wilderness in the Tana River I am going to give you reasons why Kenya needs to be on your to-visit list for 2017. I will start you off with a 6-day itinerary from city to bush to beach. Since Kenya is a country with a lot to see, I will try a squeeze as much as I can in this 6-day itinerary. Keep in mind a few facts to know before visiting Kenya that I wrote recently here . Day 1 : Nairobae City. Of course, your flight will land in Nairobi or your bus will end in the city. Of course, you want to see and explore the city that is Nairobi. Make a turn to the Kenyatta market. Get your hair done as I did. While you get your hair done, you can get an outfit designed by the local seamstress who also own a stall at the market. Hair dressers at Kenyatta Market. Kenyatta Market is named after the presidential family. The atmosphere at the market is informal. Make sure you try some Nyama Choma while you are at it. The market i...

Is Uber Kenya really Uber?

I was recently in Kenya and spent a week in Nairobi. This was not my first time in Kenya and I kind of know my way around the city particularly to the places that I frequent. The last time I was in Kenya I used a lot of cabs to get around. I still have the contacts to the cab drivers I used while I was there last just because I never delete contacts. But this time Nairobi has Uber so I thought I would get around the city in the same luxury I have in Johannesburg. Man, I was quickly humbled. The thing is I thought I had such high expectations because of the service that I am used to in South Africa. But seems even Kenyans know that the service they are getting is just below par and actually nobody should be accepting that level of service. But I also got chatting to the uber drivers I used while I was out there to understand what was going on. Just to put things in context in case you have never used an Uber in SA or anywhere else. Uber drivers drive luxury sedans. Usual...

The Samburu Tribe of North-Central Kenya

Archers Post, Samburu County When many think of Kenya, they think of the Nairobi National park, the only National Park in the world found within a city. Some might think of the Maasai tribe, or the Great Wildebeest Migration. These are just some of the really popular things about the East African country of Kenya. Today we take a look and learn more about the Samburu tribe: Manyatta - A Samburu Compound. The Samburu people are an indegenous tribe of people found along the NiIe Valley. They are semi nomadic - once the grass is gone, they pack up, burn what they cant take, leave no trace and head to greener pastures for better grazing for their livestock. The Samburu can be found in North-central Kenya. They are related but very distinct from the Maasai tribe. The Samburu tribe is made up of 9 sub-clans. Our guide explains that the Maasai and the Samburu where separated 300-400 years ago during a major drought when enemies came between them. Both the tribes are foun...
