What's in a Beer? A Food and Beer pairing Experience.

My most recent adventure has been learning about beers. what is it that makes a beer a good beer, what kind of food would compliment different beers, and where do these beer flavours come from and how do they come about? Most of us know a good beer or what we imagine is a good beer just based on a sip. But there is more to our beloved brew than just awesome branding and marketing. Today I will share with you some lessons I have learned from drinking beers across Africa through a 5-course food and beer pairing available at SAB World of Beer. A Nile Special on the river Nile, Uganda. What’s in a beer? Most beers are made up of four basic ingredients: Barley, which is processed into malt, then brewed Hops, which are added during brewing to balance the malt with a more bitter flavor Yeast, which adds carbonation and alcohol content during fermentation Water To make a good pairing, you first need to understand the different flavors that are present in...

himba village

As a traveler and lover of adventure and uncertainty while traveling, African cultures have always been right at the top of things I love to explore and learn about. I have found that there is great difficulty in visiting various villages to immerse myself in these cultures if you are a budget traveller but I make it happen anyways. Backpackers guide to African beers

I have come to learn that it seems like nobody does beer drinking better than I can. I have drank some really great beers across the continent on really beautiful beaches and sometimes when I just needed a break from reality, beer has had my back.  Now bear in mind that in South Africa, we have a huge variety of locally brewed alcoholic beverages. From ciders, beers, liquers and spirits. I came to learn that on the rest of the continent it isn't so. People drink beer and some imported spirits or the local traditional beers. I never used to drink beer in South Africa. Not until I traveled and realized my choices were limited so I had to a quaint my taste buds with local brews.  When I am not drinking beer, I'm basically jumping around in amazing places.  Today I have compiled all the beers for you. I will share the random stories and memories I have made while sipping on some of these delucious brews... As a South African girl, my favourite beer is a local bre...
