A Mauritanian Photo Blogpost

Sunset over rooftops in Nouakchott.  Mauritania is the country where my housemate says “If it was not for you, I would have never known that this place exists”. Well, today that is the country I will be sharing about. There will be no follow up blogpost on Mauritania, this will be the only one as I didn’t get to do anything there. Ladies washing the dishes outside the flats. Most families cook outside because their houses are not big enough to have a kitchen. Mauritania is a North Western African country. It is an Islamic state, so here you will have to take extra precaution in how you dress. A hijab is not necessary for the ladies. There are a few things about Mauritania that most never discuss, Slavery, female genital mutilation, discrimination against the darker skinned citizens, child labour and human trafficking are prevalent issues and are not hidden. There is extreme poverty in parts of the country where the darker skinned locals live. A herd of goats...

6 Reasons to visit Morocco and get stoned

Roman ruins of Chella. Yesterday I introduced you to Morocco and today, I will give you reasons to visit Morocco. There are plenty of other reasons that you will find to visit Morocco but unfortunately, I didn’t want to stay long enough to discover most of them.  1. Maghrebi Mint tea If you are a tea lover, this is where you need to start with your visit to Morocco.  If you are not a tea lover, this is also where you start your journey in Morocco.(This is probably the only blog post I can hate on coffee drinkers) Tea drinking culture in #Morocco is very important. Maghrebi Tea is a green tea with mint leaves and sugar. Today on the blog, I give you reasons you should visit Morocco and why is Chefchaouen such a popular destination with Europeans?!? Smoke your way through the Blu...

Traveling Between Botswana to Zimbabwe

Maun is in the Central Kalahari in Botswana. I have had to travel using public transport from Maun to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe my next country on my journey. The day starts extremely early, I had stayed up with my host and friend until 2am. I had to be at the bus station at 5am. Terrible decision this was, even if I should say so myself. 5a.m. I was at the bus station waiting for my mini bus to Francistown. There are no direct buses from Maun to Bulawayo. There's a bus that comes from Namibia (the same bus that myself, Adam and Lavernty couldn't get a seat on from Namibia). Unfortunately this bus is full when it passes Maun. 5:30a.m. the bus left Maun headed for Francistown, this bus costs P105 and it's a 5 hour drive. It has been raining the past 2 days in Maun, a very welcomed relief from the summer heat. This drive was pleasant on a cloudy Sunday morning. In Francistown I would catch another mini bus headed to the Zimbabwean border which costs P20 and you get c...
